The purpose of this website is to share what I've learned about
how we can get our prayers answered. I'm currently writing a
book, Petitioning God: How I Learned to Get Prayers
Answered—and Find Peace & Joy. You can read some of the
chapters, as well as abstracts of all of them, using the buttons
on this page—or, for an even briefer introduction, I've
summarized the main points on the "how it works" and "tips"
pages. Also, you can write me with your spiritual problems
and questions, and I'll be happy to suggest solutions based on
my own experiences carrying on a dialogue with the Almighty.

A Bit of Background
Ever since God revealed him- or her- or itself to me at a
junior-high Bible study when I was going on fifteen, I've been
experimenting with ways to get him or her or it to grant my
requests. That makes three decades of experience, mostly of
the simple trial-and-error variety.
Petitioning God is based on a spiritual journal I've been
keeping since my early forties, and it goes into quite a bit of
psychological detail about my struggles and triumphs, about
what worked and what didn't. Unlike many books on prayer,
Petitioning God never ignores the huge difficulty of trying to
maintain faith in the face of everyday life.
The two main narratives traced in the book are a lesbian love
story and a cancer story, both of which have happy
outcomes, thanks to my successful petitioning.

Is It Christian???
YES. My relationship with God began in a Christian setting,
and the basics of what I've learned about getting prayers
answered come straight from the New Testament, especially
Jesus' teaching that we must forgive others if we want God
to give us what we ask for. And learning to "love thy
neighbor" is absolutely essential to the whole project.
HOWEVER, while I am very definitely Christian, I have
never seen any reason to exclude other paths to
enlightenment. Petitioning God thus makes use of many
other traditions of spirituality and psychology as well as
Christianity. Jesus came to teach us that God is love, and
wherever love rules, Petitioning God is right at home.
